Four members of a family in the Pydhonie area of South Mumbai died on Sunday (April 26, 2026) after experiencing vomiting and diarrhea following a meal of biryani and watermelon. The police have registered an accidental death report and sent food samples for forensic testing.
The deceased have been identified as Abdullah Dokadia (40), his wife Nasreen (35), and their daughters Aisha (16) and Zainab (13). The family resided in the Mughal Building at Ghati Galli, Pydhonie.
According to the police, the family had invited five relatives for dinner on Saturday (April 25) night. The group ate biryani at around 10.30 p.m. After the guests left, the family consumed watermelon at approximately 1.30 a.m. on Sunday (April 26).
All family members soon reported vomiting and diarrhea and consulted a family doctor. With no improvement in their health, they were admitted to J.J. Hospital. The youngest daughter Zainab was declared dead at 10.15 a.m. followed by the other daughter Aisha and their mother Nasreen. Soon after, the father Abdullah died at 10.30 p.m.
The five relatives who were invited to dinner have not reported any symptoms.
