Two bisons that strayed from Kawal tiger reserve have fallen prey to electrical fence in Jagtial district, the details of which came to light rather late.

The incident happened on April 21, 2026, at Medaram hamlet of Rechapalli mandal. The bisons came out of the reserve to quench thirst in a stream, after which they entered the fields of one Bhukya Naik, District Forest Officer Ravi Prasad informed.

Naik, who had earlier experienced raids by wild boars, had reportedly installed an electrified fence around his paddy field. The two bisons died after coming into contact with the live wire.

Mr.Naik, however, tried to dispose of the carcasses without information to forest officials.

“He first tried to bury them, but could not carry it out successfully due to the size of the animals. He later took them to the forest and tried to set them on fire, when a few shepherds informed us,” Mr.Prasad said.
