The Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) walked out of a meeting of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation council on Monday (April 27, 2026) accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led administration of failing to address the acute drinking water crisis that various parts of Thiruvananthapuram city has been experiencing over the past few weeks.
As soon as the council meeting ended abruptly, the BJP councillors staged a march to the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) head office in the city accusing the State government of shirking its responsibility to provide drinking water.

At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Mayor G.S. Asha Nath moved a resolution in support of the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was recently defeated by the Opposition in the Parliament as it was tied with the delimitation exercise. The LDF and UDF councillors questioned the need for such a resolution regarding a defeated Bill when other pressing issues had to be discussed.
The Opposition councillors demanded that a discussion be held on the drinking water scarcity. However, Mayor V.V. Rajesh said the issue could be taken up after the agenda items were discussed and passed. The LDF and UDF councillors raised placards and banners accusing the Corporation of failing to take any concrete action. With the Opposition councillors remaining adamant on their stance, the Mayor gave in to their demand for a discussion.
