April 26 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Park over the weekend, killing two people, including a state legislator from North Dakota, federal and local officials said.
The Beechcraft BE33 with two people aboard crashed in a residential field shortly after takeoff from Crystal Airport in Minnesota around noon CDT Saturday, according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration, which said it and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating.
Police responded to a report of the crash at Brooklyn Park near the airport at 11:51 a.m., with officers and firefighters arriving at the scene to find a small aircraft on fire, which responders extinguished.
"Unfortunately, everybody on the plane perished," Matt Rabe of the Brooklyn Park Police Department said during a press conference.
