More than 20 people were injured after protesters attempting to march to the official residence of Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh clashed with security personnel on Saturday (April 25, 2026).

The protesters were seeking the arrest of those involved in the April 7 bomb attack that killed two children in Bishnupur district’s Tronglaobi.

Shutdowns by ethnic groups disrupt normal life in most parts of Manipur

The protesters took out processions from four directions in a bid to converge at the Chief Minister’s bungalow in the Babupara area of the State’s capital, Imphal. The security personnel thwarted their march in the Khurai Lamlong area of Imphal East district, about two km from the Chief Minister’s residence.

The security personnel dispersed hundreds of protesters, mobilised by the Imphal Valley-based Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), by firing tear gas shells when they tried to break through the security barricades.
