Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is set to launch her own political party on Saturday, to script an independent political journey.

The name for the party doing the rounds is Telangana Praja Jagruthi, which echoes the Telangana sentiment and an attempt to revive the emotional and cultural connect around Telangana identity, something the BRS diluted when it rebranded itself with a national outlook.

Ms. Kavitha’s move follows a prolonged period of differences with her father on key issues, including political succession. Her decision to float a new party marks a significant departure, not just personally, but also in the context of Telangana politics.

Comparisons are inevitable with Y. S. Sharmila, who had launched a political outfit in Telangana but struggled to gain traction, and closed the outfit before the elections. Prof. Kodandaram launched Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS), which has not made any political impact.

Before the Telangana formation political heavyweights P Indra Reddy and T Devender Goud tried the sentiment launching Jai Telangana Party and Nava Telangana Party respectively, but scrapped them.
