After cancelling the licence of a homestay in Kodagu following the alleged sexual assault of a woman from the U.S. on its premises, the Kodagu district administration is expected to tighten regulations governing such facilities that provide accommodation to tourists in the coming days.

According to sources in the Tourism Department in Madikeri, Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu, Somashekar S.J., cancelled the licence issued to the homestay located in Kutta following a report from the police.

The licence for the facility, which had accommodated the complainant, was issued in 2024 and was valid for five years.

Tourism Department officials said they were awaiting the revision of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for homestays by the State government, as well as the outcome of a meeting convened by the Superintendent of Police of Kodagu district, to take further steps on tightening the regulations governing such tourist facilities.

The police have arrested a staff member of the homestay in connection with the alleged sexual assault, and the owner of the facility for allegedly attempting to cover up the crime.
