The Ammapettai police are on the look out for the a DMK functionary, Rajini of Poondi, as he had reportedly inflicted cut injuries on the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Poondi Branch Joint Secretary Velayutham of Thopputheru, and his wife, Kanchana, on April 23.
According to the police, the accused and the injured were cousins. The accused had warned the victim not to canvass against the DMK in the elections and manhandled him. Mr. Velayutham had lodged a complaint with the Ammapettai police in this regard.
On the polling day, Rajini picked a quarrel with Mr. Velayutham at a polling booth. Later, he went to Mr. Velayutham’s residence and attempted to attack Ms. Kanchana. She was saved by the neighbours.
Later at night, Rajini allegedly inflicted cut injuries on Mr. Velayutham while the latter was walking towards his residence. When Ms. Kanchana attempted to prevent the attack, Rajini allegedly inflicted cut injuries on her also before fleeing the spot.
The couple were admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital for treatment, the police said.
