The war of words between Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty and Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.V. Rajesh continued on Friday, with the Minister accusing the city Corporation of complacency.

Mr. Sivankutty, who is a former Mayor, and Mr. Rajesh have been involved in a blame game over civic issues for the past few days.

In the latest salvo, the Minister, at a press conference here, alleged that the state of affairs in the city Corporation was distressing. It seemed like systems put in place by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) when it governed the Corporation were falling apart under the Bharatiya Janata Party-led (BJP) council. “The BJP has completely failed to administer the city Corporation,” he said.

Mr. Sivankutty unleashed a fresh round of criticism of the civic body over waste management and street lighting. “Mounds of waste can be seen in various parts of the city. The functioning of Haritha Karma Sena has been disrupted in many places,” Mr. Sivankutty alleged, adding that waste management required proper planning.
