The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar won the trust vote in the State Assembly on Friday (April 24, 2026) by voice vote. Earlier, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had moved the motion for a trust vote on the floor of the House.

After a 90-minute debate involving Opposition and ruling party leaders, Speaker Prem Kumar announced the passage of the confidence motion and congratulated the newly formed government.

Speaking in the debate, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said Bihar would pursue progress and growth on the road map drawn up by his predecessor Nitish Kumar, and also criticised the previous Rashtriya Janata Dal government. Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav (Rashtriya Janata Dal) took a jibe at Mr. Choudhary over his “selection” as Chief Minister by the “elected” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Mr. Yadav also said this was the “fifth government in last five years”. “What happened to the slogan raised before the Assembly election 2025-2030 phir se Nitish,” Mr. Yadav asked.

Leaders from ruling alliance partner Janata Dal (United) recalled Nitish Kumar’s tenure in Bihar and said they were missing his absence in the House. “He [Nitish Kumar] was torchbearer for us who guided us in politics and work for development of the State,” said senior JD(U) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary. The other Deputy Chief Minister, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, also from JD(U), said the coffers of the State “is not empty and there is a policy, rule to take loan for everyone…even Indian and other governments take loan”. “There will not be fund crisis for any development work in the State,” he added.
