A vessel that went fishing off Cape Cod earlier this month came away with a truly out of the blue catch: a split-colored lobster.

The lobster's coloring appears to be divided perfectly down the middle: on one side, the creature's body is a red-orange hue, and on the other, it's a dark brown.

It's an extremely rare anomaly that saved its life.

Instead of heading to market, Wellfleet Shellfish Company, a seafood purveyor on Cape Cod, donated the lobster to the Woods Hole Science Aquarium.

The aquarium, which is run by the National Marine Fisheries Service and currently closed for repairs, will put the lobster on public display when it reopens next year, Wellfleet Shellfish Company said in a news release.
