David Scott (D-Ga.) has died, his office told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.The 80-year-old had filed to run for re-election this year, seeking a 13th term representing Georgia’s 13th congressional district. Early voting in the state's general election primary begins next week.Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) extended his condolences to Scott’s family and staffers in a statement and commended him for “devoting his life to public service and the state of Georgia.”“The State of Georgia is a better place thanks to the service of Congressman Scott,” Ossoff said. “May his memory be a blessing.”Scott’s Democratic colleagues had been concerned as far back as 2022 about his health, particularly given his previous role chairing the Agriculture Committee.Lawmakers told Politico at the time that Scott was unable to maintain control of routine hearings and seemed to have trouble focusing.
