The discovery of live ammunition inside a toilet at the Divisional Railway Hospital at Pettah on Wednesday prompted intensified investigation by the Vanchiyoor police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

According to the police, seven live rounds were recovered from a mug placed inside the toilet. It is suspected that the ammunition belongs to the RPF and is typically used in service pistols issued to security personnel.

Officials clarified that the items recovered were unused bullets, and there is no indication they had been discharged.

The hospital primarily serves railway employees, RPF personnel, and retired staff. The facility has restricted public access, and allows entry mainly for eligible railway beneficiaries.
