A probe has been ordered at the State-run Victoria Hospital following allegations by a patient’s family that medical negligence led to his death.
Hospital Medical Superintendent Deepak S. said a committee of experts has been constituted to ascertain the cause of death.
The victim, a 45-year-old delivery worker with a private firm, was admitted to the hospital’s emergency ward on February 19 with swelling in the genital region. In her complaint, his wife alleged that doctors, suspecting infection, performed a surgical procedure and later referred him to the plastic surgery department.
She claimed he was discharged without adequate treatment as the wound had not healed, alleging a lack of coordination between the surgery and plastic surgery units.
According to her, he was sent home despite continued bleeding, without suturing or proper dressing.
