Telangana Food Safety authorities destroyed 1,000 kg of raw onions and seized 480 kg of cooking oil during a raid on a food unit in Kukatpally on Wednesday.

The department, acting on inputs from the SOT Police, inspected M/s Naseeb Birhsta at Kaithalapur, and uncovered serious violations. Officials found that used cooking oil was being procured and reused for the bulk preparation of fried onions, raising concerns over public health risks, said a release.

The premises were also found to be in a highly unhygienic condition, prompting immediate action by the enforcement team. In addition to the destruction of raw stock, around 70 kg of fried onions were also disposed of.

Authorities seized approximately 480 kg of cooking oil after collecting samples for laboratory analysis. Following the raid, the premises were sealed and further investigation has been initiated.
