In addition to the new medical center, the Dell’s gift will be used to provide significant support for undergraduate student scholarships, student housing and UT’s Texas Advanced Computing Center. The newly named UT Dell Campus for Advanced Research will bring together the university’s existing strengths in advanced computing capabilities and artificial intelligence. The university plans to break ground later this year on the UT Dell Medical Center, which the university is calling the country’s first “AI-native” medical center. Scheduled to open in 2030, the UT Dell Medical Center will deliver a “fully integrated, patient-centered model," focused on “earlier detection, more precise and personalized care, and better health outcomes.” The university indicated that it hopes to use the Dell’s commitment as a springboard for it to raise a total of $10 billion over the the next 10 years.The Dells’ investment is one of the largest-ever private gifts to a U.S. university. According to a press release, their total contributions to the University of Texas now top $1 billion, making them the first donors to surpass that milestone in lifetime giving to UT. Their past gifts have supported student scholarships, capital investments and a broad range of academic and research programs.“UT Austin, where Dell Technologies was founded from a dorm room, has always been a place where bold ideas become real-world impact,” said Michael and Susan Dell, in the university’s announcement. “What makes this moment so meaningful is the opportunity to build something that brings every part of the journey together — from how students learn, to how discoveries are made, to how care reaches families.
