“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert said on Monday that FBI Director Kash Patel had a tough weekend after The Atlantic accused him of “excessive drinking and unexplained absences.”

The magazine reported that in one instance, officials requested “breaching equipment” of the type used in SWAT operations because Patel had been unreachable and was behind locked doors.

“Wow! Breaching equipment,” Colbert said. “I’ve been drunk, but I’ve never been battering-ram drunk. I have never been so hung over I needed my alarm clock to be the jaws of life.”

Patel denies the allegations and is suing the magazine for $250 million.

“We are not gonna take this laying down,” he said on Fox News.
