The Bombay High Court on April 17 held that the arrest of businessperson Sheetal Tejwani in two criminal cases by the Pimpri and Bavdhan police stations was illegal as the grounds of arrest were not communicated to her. The Court, however, upheld her arrest in a third case registered at the Khadak police station. She is an accused in the Mundhwa land deal case.

Justice N.J. Jamadar, in an order on separate petitions, said the grounds of arrest in the cases registered at Bavdhan and Pimpri police stations were not communicated to Tejwani at the time of her arrest or before she was produced in court. The High Court also said the trial court had downplayed the failure of the investigators.

Tejwani, 44, was first arrested by the Khadak police on December 3, 2025, in connection with alleged irregularities in a land deal involving a firm linked to Parth, the son of late deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. The Bavdhan police had registered a case related to a similar land deal in Mundhwa, Pune, while the Pimpri police had registered offences against her in the Seva Vikas Cooperative Bank loan fraud case.

After the Khadak police arrested her, the police sought her custody in the Bavdhan case and arrested her on December 16, 2025, after obtaining her custody from prison. On January 3, 2026, the Pimpri police arrested her in the bank case.
