The student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party, the Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), on Monday marched to the Lieutenant Governor Secretariat and submitted a memorandum seeking an impartial probe into an incident at Gargi College.
The group alleged that members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), along with Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Aryan Maan, forcibly entered the campus during student council election-related unrest on April 17.
Gargi College, affiliated with University of Delhi, is a women’s college where entry of male visitors is regulated.
“The administration talks extensively about women’s empowerment. However, at a time when discussions on the women’s reservation were ongoing, members of BJP’s student wing ABVP and DUSU President Aryan Mann entered Gargi Women’s College along with outside men,” ASAP said in a statement.
ABVP, however, denied wrongdoing. It said Mr. Maan reached the college after a candidate complained of bias in the election process. According to the organisation, tensions escalated during a protest, and members attempted to open the gates to allow students waiting outside to vote.
