Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has issued an urgent appeal after her car, containing vital hospital equipment for her twin daughters, was stolen from her driveway. The 34-year-old singer took to Instagram to ask for help locating the black Defender, registration JJ73SSY, which was taken in the early hours from her home in Brentwood, Essex. “I have so much of my girls’ hospital equipment in that car that’s really needed,” she said.“Please, if any of you have seen or know of any information can you DM me or contact the police.”Nelson’s daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, have been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a rare genetic condition causing progressive muscle wastage. The diagnosis has propelled Nelson into a prominent advocacy role. Earlier this month, she expressed pride as screenings for SMA were brought forward in the UK to October 2026, ahead of the initial January 2027 schedule.Jesy Nelson with her twins (Instagram/@jesynelson)Following her twins’ diagnosis, Nelson launched a petition for SMA to be included in the newborn blood spot screening test, also known as the heel prick test, which has garnered over 100,000 signatures. She met with Health Secretary Wes Streeting in January to discuss the life-changing impact of early detection and became a patron of SMA UK in February. The singer said in January that her daughters’ diagnosis would mean they are unlikely to ever be able to walk or regain their neck strength.SMA causes muscle weakness, movement problems, problems with breathing and swallowing, muscle tremors, and bone and joint problems, according to the NHS.Speaking earlier this year, Nelson said of her activism: “It has caused a lot of commotion and it’s been amazing because the SMA community have been screaming and shouting about this for years, and it’s never been taken seriously.”Nelson also experienced a series of complications during her pregnancy, including twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which the NHS says is caused by abnormal connecting blood vessels in the placenta which leads to an imbalanced blood flow from one twin to the other. Her pregnancy struggles have been documented in Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, a six-part Prime Video documentary series.Essex Police has been contacted for comment.
