The management of Kannur Dental College in Anjarakandy has rejected allegations of caste-based harassment in connection with the death of first-year student R.L. Nithin Raj, asserting that the incident was linked to issues arising from a personal loan and not institutional discrimination.

In a detailed statement issued by Medical Director of the college andProfessor P. Adnan Siddique, the college said misleading and unhealthy narrative are being circulated in sections of the media, affecting social harmony.

The management maintained that the student had not filed any complaint against the institution, its teachers and or staff during his time on the campus. It said the immediate trigger for the event leading to his death was related to harassment calls received by a faculty member whose name had allegedly been listed as a reference in the loan taken by the student.

According to the statement, the student was called to the Principal’s office after the faculty member reported repeated calls and messages from loan recovery agents. During the discussion, Nithin reportedly said the loan had been taken for his brother-in-law. The management claimed attempts were made to contact the relative, but his phone remained switched off.
