An accused involved in a broad daylight bank heist of cash and gold worth more than ₹15 crore in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli was arrested from a train in Bihar’s Aurangabad district, officers told The Hindu on Saturday (April 18, 2026).
According to the police, the accused was detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from an express train near Aurangabad’s Nabinagar station when he was found in suspicious condition and was arrested after questioning. The man has been identified as Kamlesh Kumar and cash of about ₹15 lakh and some gold has been recovered from him.
Singrauli City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Umesh Prajapati said that the man is a resident of Bihar’s Nalanda district and is currently being brought to Singrauli on transit remand.
On Friday (April 17, 2026), five men entered a branch of Bank of Maharashtra in Singrauli’s Baidhan area and looted cash worth ₹20.2 lakh and gold kept as mortgage by customers after holding three staff members and about 10 customers hostage at gunpoint.
The sensational daylight robbery was performed in just 18 minutes as the armed men entered the bank at 12.47 p.m. and fled the scene by 1.05 p.m., as per the CCTV footage obtained by the police. The incident prompted the top State police officers to get involved with the case, including Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana going to Singrauli to take stock of the situation.
