The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Saturday moved an interim bail application for jailed party chief and Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, in view of the critical health condition of his father in a Srinagar hospital. Meanwhile, ruling National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah also demanded his release.
“An interim bail application has been filed before the competent court, seeking permission for Mr. Rashid to visit his critically ill father. We are hopeful that the Hon’ble Court will take a compassionate and humanitarian view of the situation, considering the gravity and urgency involved,” said AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi.
Mr. Rashid’s father, Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, according to the family, has been put on a ventilator. “He is battling for his life, and this is an extremely painful moment for the family. At such a time, it is only humane that a father gets to see his son and a son is allowed to be beside his ailing father,” said Mr. Nabi.
He said MP Rashid’s father “deserves to see his son in these critical moments”.
Several legislators and leaders of NC, including Nasir Aslam Wani, who is adviser to J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Aga Muntazir Mehdi, visited the hospital.
