The very word Thirupparankundram will remind everyone of the imposing hillock and the famous Subramaniyaswamy Temple, the first of the six abodes of Lord Murugan.
However, for the last few months, the hillock and the temple are mired in controversies.
Firstly, it started over a complaint in early 2025 on consumption of non-vegetarian food on the hillock where Sulthan Sikkandhar Avulia Dargah is also located.
This triggered a century-old row over the ownership of the hill, to which the State Government said that it had been settled way back in 19831 by the Privy Council.
Even as the row over the hill faded away, another controversy over lighting of Karthigai deepam rocked the Temple City in December 2025.
