Visit the Basilica of Saint-Denis during its restoration

Children's area at the restoration site of the spire and the north tower of the Basilique de Saint-Denis. GDO

How about going behind the scenes at the Basilica of Saint-Denis during the restoration work on the spire and north tower? Families can watch stone carving in action, with part of the work being done on site. The artisans there also act as guides and educators, explaining their craft and expertise. In a dedicated children's area, with plastic tools and a DIY workshop, younger kids get to play at forging. Meanwhile, children over the age of six can watch real stone carving take place. On April 19, there is also a family stained-glass workshop for children over eight. The ticket for this behind-the-scenes tour also includes access to the royal necropolis, home to the tombs of 40 kings, 26 queens, and 60 princes and princesses. The recumbent statues of Clovis, Dagobert, or Pepin the Short, along with a descent into the crypt, always make quite an impression!
