A new initiative to strengthen the climate and disaster resilience of water and wastewater systems across six small towns in the State was launched in Chickballapur district on Friday.
The project titled ‘Building Small Town Water Resilience in Chickballapur District’ will assess water and used water systems, develop technical guidelines, and conduct capacity development activities across Bagepalli, Chintamani, Chickballapur, Gudibande, Gowribidanur and Sidlaghatta. It aims to use the infrastructure, service delivery, and risk analyses to identify measures that will improve water resilience and support the safe and effcient reuse of water in these places.
Funded by Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and implemented by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements in collaboration with the district administration, the project will be implemented from April 2026 to March 2028.
The initiative will provide technical assistance to local governments to assess water and wastewater systems, integrate climate and disaster risk into planning processes, and develop actionable strategies for resilient and efficient infrastructure deployment and service delivery. The programme will also focus on capacity building, enabling local institutions to adopt data-driven and risk-informed approaches to infrastructure planning.
