Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday flagged off 200 electric buses at the East Vinod Nagar depot. She said her government is working in “mission mode” to transition Delhi’s public transport system to electric vehicles.
With this, the total bus fleet in the Capital has crossed 6,300, of which over 4,500 are electric, making Delhi the city with the largest electric bus fleet in the country, said the CM.
The government aims to expand the fleet to 14,000 buses by 2028–29, as per the Chief Minister’s Office.
The new buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, real-time tracking systems, and accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
“Our government is working in mission mode to fully convert Delhi’s public transport into EVs. The number of EV buses in Delhi has already exceeded 4,500, with a target to reach7,000 by the end of 2026,” Ms. Gupta stated in a post on X.
