Minister for IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu on Friday urged the defence industry, research laboratories and scientists to collaborate with the Telangana government to build a strong aerospace ecosystem in the capital region.

Addressing the Indian Aeronautical Society’s national conference on “Changing Scenario in Aerospace: R&D, Manufacturing and Certification”, hosted by its local chapter at the Engineering Staff College of India in Hyderabad, he said Telangana and Hyderabad possessed the required infrastructure, a strong talent pool and dedicated aerospace clusters. More than 1,500 firms based in the State contribute to global aerospace supply chains, he noted.

Mr. Sridhar Babu said the State government had taken proactive steps to promote advanced manufacturing, certification and research and development in aerospace and allied sectors. However, he emphasised the need to convert innovation into market-ready products and bridge the gap between research and commercial manufacturing.

Highlighting the importance of certification, the Minister said developing a robust domestic certification ecosystem was essential to reduce dependence on overseas facilities, which often led to higher costs and delays. He said the government was preparing to support emerging technologies such as drones, 3D printing, advanced materials, artificial intelligence and related areas.
