A Circle Inspector of the One Town police station here, M. Maheshwara, has been placed under suspension following serious allegations of corruption linked to cricket betting operations.
The Inspector had allegedly collected large sums of money, reportedly in lakhs, from individuals involved in betting. The matter surfaced during a recent crackdown at the Two Town Police Station, where several betting operators were apprehended. Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi based on preliminary inquiry recommended disciplinary action against Mr. Maheshwara.
Acting on the recommendation, Deputy Inspector General (Anantapur range) Shemushi Bajpai issued suspension orders against the officer.
Meanwhile, Chittoor Special Branch officials have submitted a detailed report on the alleged misconduct and irregularities of the Inspector to senior authorities for further action.
