Trump Breaks Up With His One-Sided Bestie For Taxing The Ultra-RichIt looks like President Donald Trump has ended his chummy relationship with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, accusing the democratic socialist on Thursday of "DESTROYING" New York with his new plan to tax the ultra-rich."The United States of America should not contribute to [New York's] failure. It will only get WORSE," the president wrote on Truth Social. "The TAX, TAX, TAX Policies are SO WRONG. People are fleeing. They must change their ways, AND FAST."The post comes one day after Mamdani released a video announcing New York's first "pied-a-terre tax," an annual fee that only applies to the city's luxury properties worth more than $5 million that don't serve as the owner's primary home. The mayor said that the tax, which is "specifically designed for the richest of the rich," is expected to raise at least $500 million directly for the city to fund public services. For Trump, that means taxes on his New York real estate -- a development that shouldn't come as a surprise, given that affordability is what Mamdani has always promised. The president shocked the public by gushing about meeting Mamdani when he was elected mayor. The two leaders met at the Oval Office in February, where Mamdani's office said that Trump was "very enthusiastic" about some of the new mayor's housing proposals.See All UpdatesClose
