Following a similar initiative by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the Tumakuru District Police have launched a Traffic Warden Team initiative, seeking public participation to help manage rising traffic congestion in Tumakuru city.
According to officials, the move is aimed not only at easing congestion on busy roads but also at strengthening police-public relations and instilling a sense of traffic discipline and road safety among citizens. This will also ease the workload of police personnel on the ground.
With Tumakuru witnessing rapid urban growth and a steady increase in vehicle numbers, the police said the initiative would involve volunteers assisting traffic personnel in regulating movement and improving overall traffic management. Citizens willing to dedicate their time to support police duties have been invited to join the programme.
Individuals aged between 21 and 65 who are physically fit can apply. Eligible participants include retired government employees, ex-servicemen, businesspersons, NCC and NSS students, members of NGOs and resident welfare associations, auto and taxi union members, corporate CSR volunteers, and the general public.
The Traffic Warden Team will assist police at busy junctions, create awareness on road safety, report traffic violations, alert authorities during accidents or congestion, and provide support during festivals and special events. Officials said the initiative would help foster better coordination between the police and the public.
