“I just had excellent conversations with the Highly Respected President Joseph Aoun, of Lebanon, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel. These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10-day ceasefire at 5 p.m. EST,” Mr. Trump wrote in a social media post.
The ceasefire, if it comes into effect, could strengthen the two-week U.S.-Iran ceasefire which was announced on April 8. Iran has demanded from day one of the ceasefire that Israeli attacks on Lebanon stop. Israel said it would honour the U.S.-Iran truce and halted strikes on Iran, but stepped up attacks on Lebanon, saying the country was not covered by the agreement.
