Taking serious note of violations of organisational discipline, the Congress on Thursday (April 16, 2026) suspended five Haryana MLAs from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect for voting against the party nominee during Rajya Sabha elections last month.Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Rao Narender Singh said that MLAs Shalley Chaudhary, Renu Bala, Sardar Jarnail Singh, Mohd. Ilyas, and Mohd. Israil representing Naraingarh, Sadhaura, Ratia, Punhana and Hathin constituencies respectively have been suspended for anti-party activities. He stated that the action was taken on the recommendation of the Disciplinary Action Committee and with the approval of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge. The MLAs concerned had recently voted against the party’s candidate during the Rajya Sabha elections, which constitutes serious indiscipline and is contrary to established organisational norms, added Mr. Singh. He emphasised that discipline was paramount within the party and that any form of indiscipline at any level would not be tolerated. He said that this decision sent a clear message to all leaders and workers that actions contrary to collective decisions and the party’s official stance would invite strict disciplinary action.
