The Telangana government continues to pursue its ambitious plan to boost heritage tourism in Hyderabad, with a proposed 1.3-kilometre ropeway connecting the Qutb Shahi Tombs and Golconda Fort taking centre stage, alongside the sanction of ₹3.64 crore for the restoration of the historic Machli Kaman near Charminar.
Ropeway project in clearance stage
During a field inspection on Wednesday (April 15, 2026), Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao reviewed progress on the ropeway project, which is currently in the clearance stage. Officials informed him that necessary approvals from multiple departments are awaited, following which the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be finalised.
The ropeway project is expected to enhance connectivity between two of Hyderabad’s most prominent heritage sites, improving tourist access while offering a unique aerial view of the historic landscape.
Announcing the ₹3.64 crore allocation for the restoration of Machli Kaman — one of the four iconic arches forming the Char Kaman near Charminar — during his inspection of the Charminar precinct, Mr. Rao said the funds were approved by the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSDA), with the tender process to be initiated shortly. He also directed officials to undertake the renovation of the Sher-e-Batil Kaman and improve the aesthetic appeal of the Charminar area by beautifying the nearby fountain.
