With no end in sight to the war in West Asia, the hotel and catering business in the State too has been subdued with even Vishu failing to lift the industry out of the doldrums.
Over the years, Vishu, like Onam, has become a festival that families want to celebrate together, with many preferring to dine out or get food catered.
However, the Vishu season this time has not gone as planned for hotels and caterers, with LPG unavailability and lack of workers playing spoilsport.
Less than half the hotels have arranged to provide Vishu sadya as compared to the past year, says G. Jayapal, State president of the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association.
Mr. Jayapal says his own hotel at Perumbavoor has been closed for a month.
