Women’s rights activists and civil society members on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) said the women’s reservation Act should be implemented immediately at the current strength of the Parliament and should not be used as a “smokescreen” for delimitation.

Civil society members and transparency activists expressed concern over the “opaque and non-consultative” manner in which the government was bringing Bills on women’s reservation and delimitation in the upcoming session of Parliament.

‘No need for delimitation’

“Womens’ reservation does not need any delimitation. It should be implemented at the current strength immediately. We reject the manner in which women’s reservation is being used as a smokescreen for the political aim of delimitation,” the activists said in a release issued after a press conference in New Delhi.
