Pope Leo XIV said Tuesday that God, torn by wars, is not on the side of bullies in what was seen as further criticism of United States President Donald Trump and his war alongside Israel against Iran.
Pope Leo once again attacked the world's bullies who decide wars.
After Monday's retort to Trump, in which he said he was not afraid of a president who called him weak and terrible on foreign policy and who owed his election to Trump, Leo reiterated that "God's heart is torn by wars, violence, injustice, and lies.
"But our Father's heart is not with the wicked, with the bullies, with the proud: God's heart is with the lowly and the humble, and with them he advances his Kingdom of love and peace, day by day," he said, praising what is being done instead at the Home for the Elderly run by the Little Sisters of the Poor in Annaba, Algeria.
Also Tuesday, in a message the pope sent to participants in the Plenary Assembly of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences on the use of power at the global level, Leo said: "The concept of legitimate power finds one of its highest expressions in authentic democracy," "far from being a mere procedure, democracy recognizes the dignity of every person." However, it remains sound only when it is rooted in moral law and a true vision of the human person.
