Shivamogga
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the bridge built across Bhadra backwater in N.R. Pura taluk on April 13. The bridge, about 504 metre in length, connects Handuru to N.R. Pura taluk centre. The CM inaugurated the bridge at a ceremony held at Hiluvalli near N.R. Pura. He was accompanied by Energy Minister K.J. George, Sringeri MLA T.D. Raje Gowda and other legislators, besides officers.
The bridge benefits many residents of villages in N.R. Pura taluk. In the absence of the bridge, the residents of Honnekudige, Handuru, Chinnakudige, Chikkanduru and other villages had to travel a long distance to reach the taluk centre. With the bridge being dedicated to the public, the distance has come down significantly.
Project
The old road was submerged with the construction of a dam across the Bhadra river. Since then, the local people have been demanding a bridge across the backwater. During Siddaramaiah’s visit to Chikkamagaluru as Chief Minister in June 2016, the local people, under the leadership of then MLC M. Srinivas, placed their demand before him.
