That order, handed down in March, blocked key provisions of the Pentagon’s restrictive new press policy and called on DOD to reinstate multiple reporters’ credentials. “The policy, which was implemented in October, required Pentagon reporters to sign a document agreeing that any information gathered must be approved before it is released, even if it is unclassified,” the BBC reported. “Those who did not sign were barred from daily access to the building.”Many outlets, including HuffPost, refused to sign this document. After the March decision, the DOD issued an updated policy, including removing media offices from the Pentagon. Friedman said that the DOD’s revised policy remained unlawful and noted that the Pentagon was in violation of his earlier order. “The department cannot simply reinstate an unlawful policy under the guise of taking ‘new’ action and expect the court to look the other way,” he wrote. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell pushed back on the ruling in a post on X and said the DOD intended to appeal.Read more from CBS News: See All UpdatesClose
