The Central Crime Branch (CCB) have arrested a real estate broker for allegedly cheating an ex-serviceman of ₹55 lakh under the pretext of selling a coconut grove.
The police said Lakshmi Narasimman, 60, an ex-serviceman residing at Paleripattu near Avadi, was looking to purchase a piece of land. In 2023, he came across an advertisement for the sale of 76,800 sq. ft. of land with a coconut grove near Arakkonam in Ranipet district.
He contacted the number that was given on the advertisement. Baskaran, 52, claiming to be a real estate businessman, invited Narasimman for discussions and took him to the land that was mentioned in the advertisement.
Following negotiations, Narasimman paid ₹55 lakh to Baskaran. However, Baskaran allegedly failed to execute the sale deed as promised. Based on a complaint from Narasimman, the police arrested Baskaran and remanded him to judicial custody.
