April 9 (UPI) -- Several current golfers and icons of the sport have commented on Tiger Woods' absence at the 2026 Masters, saying they hope he can return to the game.

Some also said they hope Woods, who was arrested and released March 27 in Stuart, Fla. and faces charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit a lawful test, hires a driver.

Jack Nicklaus, who teed off with fellow golf legends Gary Player and Tom Watson in Thursday's Honorary Starters ceremony, told reporters he told Woods to "get whatever you need to help you and get back."

"Because I think golf needs him, and we'd love to have him back," Nicklaus said.

Several members of the 91-man field also voiced support with Woods, through some said they are not in contact with the 15-time major champion.
