The Left Democratic Front (LDF) will undoubtedly return to power for continuing the State’s development, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan has said.

Greeting people who voted for the CPI(M) to continue the “building of a new Kerala,” Mr. Govindan said the last 10 years, in which all ideas of development and welfare were rewritten, were very significant. “In 2016, the people gave the LDF the mandate to rebuild the State after the United Democratic Front (UDF) destroyed it. The government continues to discharge that responsibility,” he said.

Mr. Govindan said the election had demonstrated that the people did not want to go back to those dark times. Though there was very little time for campaigning, the people who had directly experienced change in Kerala had only good things to say about the State government. The LDF had sought a vote for continuity – that of a new Kerala without communal conflict and where social welfare and comprehensive development became possible.

However, the UDF put up a smokescreen to obscure the State’s achievements. It even brought in leaders from outside Kerala to spread lies, the CPI(M) State secretary alleged, adding none of it worked.
