Shay Taylor-Allen’s journey at Yale New Haven Hospital spans a lifetime.

The Connecticut native was born at the hospital. After high school, she worked there as a janitor for 10 years, cleaning rooms and mopping floors.

The 32-year-old is headed back to her hometown later this year, but this time she will return as a doctor.

“It was an out-of-body moment,” Taylor-Allen says of finding out she’ll be returning to New Haven.

On March 20, she found out she matched into an anesthesiology residency at Yale School of Medicine. In a video that has since garnered more than 7 million views, Taylor-Allen is overwhelmed with emotion as she learns the news.
