Leading Red Bull engineer Gianpiero Lambiase has agreed to join McLaren from 2028.
Briton Lambiase, who is most well known as being Max Verstappen's race engineer, will take on a role supporting McLaren team principal Andrea Stella.
The exact details and title of the new position are not yet known outside McLaren.
The move is aimed at strengthening McLaren's race operations at a time when Formula 1 is becoming increasingly complex.
