A forest guard was killed after a tractor-trolley carrying illegally-mined sand allegedly ran him over when a team of forest personnel was on patrolling in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district on Wednesday (April 8, 2026), police said.
According to the police, the incident took place around 6 a.m. on National Highway-552 near Ranpur village under Dimni police station area when four forest department personnel intercepted a tractor laden with sand during patrolling. The tractor-trolley was carrying the sand mined from the Chambal river.
Morena Superintendent of Police (SP) Samir Sourabh told The Hindu that one of the forest guards got down of their vehicle and signalled the tractor to stop.
“The tractor driver, however, knew that his tractor will be confiscated so he tried to flee and hit the guard, who died on the spot,” he said, adding that the driver fled the scene after the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Harkesh Gurjar, 35.
