A 23-year-old student drowned in a waterlogged pit in Noida’s Sector 94 on Wednesday evening while picnicking at the spot with three friends to celebrate the end of their examinations, the police said.

The incident comes months after Yuvraj Mehta, a 27-year-old software engineer, drowned in a waterlogged pit near a construction site in Sector 150 of Greater Noida.

The police identified the deceased as Harshit Bhat, a resident of Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram and final-year student at a private university in Noida.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Saad Miya Khan, Bhat and his friends had gone to a spot near the Supernova building for a picnic. “The preliminary investigation has revealed that they had gone to the spot to celebrate the end of their exams. Harshit drowned after entering the water-filled pit to take a bath,” Mr. Khan said.
