The Greater Chennai City Police arrested YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar alias A. Shankar in Andhra Pradesh, who had been repeatedly challenging the police on social media to arrest him.

He was earlier arrested on December 13, 2025, based on FIRs registered by the Saidapet and Adambakkam Police Stations in connection with alleged extortion cases. Subsequently, his mother, A. Kamala, filed a habeas corpus petition and another petition seeking specialised medical treatment for his health ailments, including cardiac complications.

On December 26, 2025, a Division Bench of the Madras High Court granted interim bail, subject to certain conditions. Subsequently, the State, represented by the city police, filed a writ petition seeking cancellation of the interim bail, on the grounds that he had violated the conditions imposed by the court.

On March 24, the High Court granted the liberty to the Greater Chennai City Police (GCP) to arrest Shankar if his custody was required in connection with the extortion case.

Police sources said Shankar had been operating from another state and continued to post defamatory content against public figures on social media.
