The Kerala High Court on Wednesday appointed V.G. Arun, a former judge of the Kerala High Court, as the chairperson of a high power committee to implement the Sabarimala master plan.

The appointment comes in the wake of the passing away of its chairperson S. Siri Jagan, a former judge of the High Court, in January. In view of his demise, the committee was unable to effectively carry out its functions. Having considered the entire facts and circumstances, Mr. Arun is appointed as the panel’s chairperson, the court said.

The primary objective of the master plan is to cater to the essential needs of Sabarimala pilgrims, while ensuring the protection of the region’s fragile ecological balance. Once implemented, this plan is expected to streamline pilgrim flow, reduce congestion at Pampa and along the trek routes, and facilitate the development of queue complexes and related infrastructure as envisaged under the plan.
