Appealing to consumers not to crowd gas agencies, Food and Consumer Protection Department Minister Leshi Singh said there was an initial shortage that triggered panic, prompting people to gather at distribution centres.

Following the State-wide drive against black marketing, hoarding and commercial use of domestic cylinders, 114 FIRs have been registered, and 1,662 cylinders seized following inspections of the gas agencies. The government also announced that commercial cylinders would be made available to needy persons on an equitable basis for marriage functions.

“Initially, there was a shortfall of cylinders following the outbreak of war, but it was not severe enough to affect day-to-day life. We held meetings with oil marketing companies (OMCs) to ensure delivery of cylinders in a transparent manner,” Ms. Singh said.
