A woman lost around ₹2 lakh to an online fraud in Belavadi village of Belagavi district, by opening a programme file titled wedding card.
The 49-year-old woman opened the apk file without realising it could be malicious.
The programme file was sideloaded by fraudsters and installed in her phone. She lost ₹2.17 lakh from her bank account. The file was sent by an unknown number. She thought it was a genuine invitation and opened it.
The money was withdrawn between March 30 and April 2. But she did not realise it till the bank alerted her. The victim contacted the Cyber Helpline (1930) and later filed a complaint with Belagavi District Cyber Police on Saturday.
Investigation is under way.
